did you know?

The Gap Youth and Community Centre was started by a group of volunteers.

In 1977, a group of volunteers came together to provide support and work with the Alice Springs Aboriginal community.  

Over the past 40 years, the Non for Profit Organisation has become a leader within the Youth Services Sector of Alice Springs.


 
 
 

why we need volunteers at GYC?

Volunteers provide an array of talents, skills, capabilities and wisdom that add value to our programs and facilities.

Without volunteers like you, we would not be able to serve our youth and community.


 
 
 

volunteer positions at GYC?

We believe that everyone has talents, skills and experiences that they can utilise to add value to our community.

There are three categories within which you can add value at the Gap Youth and Community Centre, namely;

  • back office
  • operations
  • projects

Back Office

As the name suggests, this relates to the administrative, compliance and supportive activities necessary to facilitate the smooth running of operations. Here are a few examples:

  • IT / Computers
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Risk and Compliance
  • Data analytics

Operations

If you would like to volunteer with youth between the ages of 10 and 17,  here are a few examples of activities we would like to expose them to:

  • AFL coaching
  • Basketball coaching
  • BMX racing and tricks
  • Crafts sessions
  • Cooking sessions
  • Dancing sessions
  • Drama sessions
  • Entrepreneurship workshops
  • Hip hop sessions
  • Meditation sessions
  • Musical Instrument session
  • Music Production
  • Leather workshops
  • Land yachts racing

  • Seamstress sessions

  • Table Tennis sessions

  • Volley ball

  • Yoga sessions

 

Projects

These are one off activities, with the purpose of achieving a specific goal. For example if you are a DIY, Music and Sound or Garden and Landscaping enthusiast, we would love to hear from you. Example projects include:

  • Music Room Makeover
  • Wicking Garden revival
  • Worm and Compost setup
  • Climbing frame assembly

Gap's 40th birthday

In 2017 we celebrated 40 years since Gap Youth Centre was founded by community volunteers as a true, grass-roots initiative.
